It begins with the writing.

Verba volant scripta manent, an old Roman loosely translates as: spoken words fly away, written words remain.

As a young scholar I was taught that the difference between ideas that stick and ones that quickly dissolve is making sure you write them down. In order to remember but also, I later discovered, to clarify & crystallise.

Later I realised that in virtually every field of human experience, the difference between success and failure is the ability to plan, write down your intentions and commit to paper (or digital screen) what your intentions are for the endeavour at hand.

I realised that as a young aspiring filmmaker, seeing a lot of people talking about the projects they wanted to make or the scripts they were going to write but very few actually doing so. The people who actually wrote those scripts or wrote those treatments or wrote those emails to actors and producers and anybody else who help them make their film, were the ones who carried through.

Years later I learned about business and was imparted the importance of writing a business plan. Doing so or not apparently often accounts for whether a new business is successful or not.

My point is, if you want to do something and you are serious about it, write it down.
